Paul Goodfellow is an artist with an interest in the application of digital technology, systems and procedural processes in the understanding of nature, society, design and art. The ultimate aim of each project is to understand the system employed and communicate the experience of interacting with both the system and the subject of study. Goodfellow trained in development theory, ecological and systems thinking, graphic communication, motion design and image processing. Each of these areas informs his relationship to space and experience of time, and systems-based art is a way of pulling these disparate perspectives together to comment on being in the world.
An underlying concern in his work is the way an artwork is an distributed across ideas, processes and material objects and how these are temporarily held together as a balanced ecosystem through the exchange of materials and information.
